Shelter Box USA – Helping Victims in Puerto Rico
The Baby Boomers Club supported The Villages Charter Middle School Rotary Interact Club with their effort to spread goodwill in the community and across the globe. Our club’s donation of $1,250 will be donated to Shelterbox USA, an organization that provides emergency shelters and supplies to families in times of natural disasters.
A shelter box which had a price tag of $1,000 in 2017, contains a tent that can hold anywhere from 10-12 people. It also has tools like a hammer and axe, cooking supplies and even a water purifying device.
The Baby Boomers Club, a 900-member Villages life-style organization, previously purchased a ShelterBox in 2017 to support hurricane victims in Puerto Rico. The club also supports additional annual charitable events to include the Toys for Tots Drive and local food pantry drives.
The Baby Boomers Club once again stepped up to provide help to those less fortunate around the world by raising $1,000 to donate to Shelter Box USA. The donation was used to purchase a shelter box for Puerto Rican victims of Hurricane Fiona.
Partnering with The Villages Rotary Club
Shelter Box USA – Helping Victims in Ukraine
The Baby Boomers Club has reached out yet again to provide humanitarian assistance. Boomers Club President Harry Lumpkin and club members presented a $2,000 check to Ms. Wendy Weaver who is a member of The Villages Rotary Club ShelterBox USA team. ShelterBox – USA is a Sarasota-based organization endorsed by Rotary International that provides emergency shelters and supplies to families in need around the world. The check was designated to purchase two ShelterBoxes for families of the Ukrainian crisis. A ShelterBox is about the size of a footlocker and comes packed with a 10-12 person tent and tools such as a hammer and axe, cooking supplies and a water-purifying device. We made a donation to ShelterBox USA to purchase two complete shelter boxes to support displaced families in Ukraine.

Marine Corps Reserve League Toys for Tots Toy Drive
Our annual toy collection drive to support the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign is one of the club’s favorites! Each year, we invite the Marine Corps Color Guard to join us for our meeting. Our own COL (R ) Fred Geier, USMC opens our November meeting with a command for the Color Guard to march in and post the Colors. Afterwards, we invite the representative from the Corps to explain the origin of the Toys for Tots Campaign and bring us up to date on how the current year’s campaign is going. In 2022, we as a club donated 257 toys along with $2,163 in cash donations! We can’t wait until November 2023 to see if we can top what we did in 2022! We are totally on board to try!
